The Miami Valley Ohio Section was organized in 1959, and our first chairman was Lester Sammons.  By 2009 the section had 38 different chairpersons (some for more than one year). Due to the enormous amount of aerospace and industrial NDT work in Southern Ohio from the 40's through the 80's, the Miami Valley section grew rapidly. In 1986 we achieved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization status, keeping our budget tax exempt so that 100% can be used for section activities. Several individuals from the section have been recognized for their impact on ASNT and NDT , including:

• Sharon Vukelich was National ASNT President 2005 - 2006 and first member-elected Chairperson of the Board in 2006.
• Don L. Conn was National ASNT President from 1980-1981.
• Ronald H. Selner presented the Lester Honor Lecture in 1986
• Thomas D. Cooper presented the Mehl Honor Lecture in 1991
• As of 2010, MVOS has sponsored 17 national fellows
